SPRING IS IN THE AIR! Renew, Refresh, and Rediscover

Spring: A Season of Renewal and Discovery

Embracing the New Season

Though not as dramatic in the Sonoran Desert, it is starting to warm up and we can see the first signs of Spring and feel it in the air. The hiking trails are packed, the flowers are blossoming after the recent rains, and we are rediscovering nature as we bask in the warmth of the desert sun.

A Time for Renewal and Reflection

Spring is a time for starting anew, cleaning out the cobwebs, and reawakening. It is not just a change in the weather; it’s a cue for personal growth and introspection. It prompts us to shake off the cobwebs of the past, to clean out the old, and make room for the new. This season of reawakening encourages us to examine our perspectives, to see the familiar with fresh eyes, and to embrace change as a vehicle for discovery.

The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

Marcel Proust

One of my students introduced me to this quote as we were discussing the importance of ‘perspective’.

This quote encapsulates the essence of spring’s transformative power. It’s a reminder that change, often seen as disruptive, is indeed a valuable opportunity for growth. By altering our routine paths, whether literally or metaphorically, we open ourselves to new experiences and insights. Spring challenges us to break free from the monotony of our daily routines, to see the beauty in change, and to embrace every opportunity with a sense of discovery.

Change is good. When things change, it is an opportunity for us to awaken to a new perspective. If you take the same road to work every day, before long you will not even remember the drive. However, if you take a new way to work one day, you will remember all the new things you see along the way.

When the season changes, this is somewhat of the same idea. We have been in a routine for a time with the winter ‘cold’, and now everything is different and exciting. This change presents the opportunity for us to have a new perspective.

Everyday as a New Beginning

So, what if every day could be a new day? What if we could make every moment of every day exciting and new as if it were the first day of Spring? What if we approached every task, every journey, even the mundane, with a sense of novelty and excitement? Changing our perspective can turn a simple drive to the grocery store into an adventure, allowing us to see the beauty in our everyday surroundings and the people in our lives with renewed appreciation and love.

Your perspective creates your reality, so what if you changed your perspective? What is you changed the way you look at things? What if your drive to the grocery store is now one of discovery? What if you looked at everything you came across with new eyes? What would you see?

What if? What if you looked at your spouse or your partner with new eyes? What if you looked at your child, or children with new eyes? These are a lot of questions, I know, but you get the point.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Try this for one day and see what you discover. In every moment of your day, when you are doing the things you would normally do, be truly present and really observe what you are observing. Then try it for two days. Notice what is different. Notice the shifts you see in your perspective, and in your life.

Change your perspective and you change your life! Have fun with it. Yakoke

The Impact of a Shifted Perspective

By adopting a new viewpoint, we don’t just change how we see the world; we transform our entire reality. This approach encourages us to be present in every moment, to engage deeply with our environment and the people around us. Such a shift can lead to profound changes in our lives, bringing joy, wonder, and a deeper appreciation for the simple things that make life truly enriching.
