Brian Tracy, one of the early personal development leaders, said that we make more decisions in one year than our grandparents made in a lifetime! AND he said that over 30 years ago when cellular phones and the internet were just coming online.
With the internet and social media, we have access to nearly infinite amounts of information at our fingertips, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. We can take courses online, talk with people across the globe, search Google… the Encyclopedia Britannica on steroids, watch a movie of our choice any time, night or day, and have groceries delivered to our door with the click of a mouse, or from an app on our phones. It’s an entirely new world than it was 30 years ago.
So, the great news is that we have access to lots of information. And, the not-so-great news is that we have access to lots of information…and maybe more than we can reasonably sort through. In Daniel Goleman’s book, Focus, he says that if you have two or three options or choices, it’s easy for us to make a logical decision. However, if we begin to have many more than that, as is often the case nowadays, the brain shuts down or goes into analysis paralysis. Either we make a random choice to keep moving forward, or we may make no choice at all, because it simply just too much.
So is it any wonder with all this that one-third of Americans are unhappy? And is it any wonder that we take more medications now than we ever have in history to overcome anxiety, and stress. And was Attention Deficit even a Disorder 30 years ago?
With all of the options which are now available to us, it is now more important than ever to focus our energy, and be proactive, and deliberate in defining our trajectory. It is critical that we plan our lives to ensure that we don’t get swept away with the multitude of options and distractions with which we are bombarded every moment of every day. With each diversion, or distraction, our attention spans decrease, and with that our focus is diluted. And focus is the key to creativity!
So let me ask you a question: How many of you get distracted, or diverted throughout your day from the task at hand?
My scientific background as an engineer led me to become fascinated with the power of the mind, and its unlimited potential. I discovered that Hypnosis is one of the simplest ways to make a dramatic difference in people’s lives, and in the shortest period of time. With Hypnosis, you can quiet the chatter and the noise, and get your brain waves back in sync to allow you to be proactive, rather than reactive, to the everyday challenges we all face.
Hypnosis is one of the oldest forms of healing going back as far as 3,000 BC when they had dream or sleep temples. More recently, in the early 1700’s a French Doctor hypnotized his subjects and had them diagnose their own ailments, and prescribe their own treatments. In the mid-1800’s another doctor performed 1,834 painless surgeries through the use of hypnosis.
During the same period, Dr. Esdaile used hypnosis in over 3,000 operations in India. The Hypnosis produced an insensitivity to pain. As a result, he dropped his mortality rate during surgery from 50% to 5%. However, when he returned to England, Esdaille was tried for charlatanism. To prove the efficacy of hypnosis, Esdaile presented the results of a report to the Royal Medical Society in 1842, on the amputation of the leg of a patient while under Hypnosis. The minutes of the presentation were stricken from the records, because as one member said, ‘The person whose leg was amputated had obviously pretended to feel no pain.”
So if Hypnosis is one of the oldest forms of healing, and it works, this begs the question, why is it not more mainstream, or more commonly used as a healing modality in this day and age? I believe we are trained that seeing is believing. Today’s Allopathic Doctors use Western Medicine which is empirical. It is based on observation. If something cannot be observed, then it cannot be verified. And if it cannot be verified, then it cannot be true!
So now that you have heard about the origins of Hypnosis, let’s talk about what is it? Is it magic, or myth, or science, or simply pocky cock? By the time I have finished speaking, you may believe that that it is any number of things, but at the end of the day, all that is important for you to know is that it WORKS!
Hypnosis gives you the ability to tap into the resources of your deepest mind, and inner wisdom to empower you to be your best right now. It is simply the deliberate use of the imagination, paired with a strong focus, and relaxation. It provides you with one of the most powerful tools for change.
So how many of you have ever experienced a state of hypnosis?
Well know this. We all go into a hypnotic state every day of our lives. It is ‘scientifically’ considered to be a ‘natural state of our subconscious mind’. And when we learn to harness this powerful tool, we can create lasting changes for success, love, joy, happiness, prosperity, or whatever we want in your life.
The fact is, that we all go into a hypnotic state if we have ever meditated, played sports, fallen in love, listened to music, exercised, or watched TV. Some people call it ‘being in the zone’, or being truly ‘present’.
For example, have you ever driven down the road and missed your exit? Do you cry at sad movies? Or laugh at a funny movie, or get scared at a horror film. If I talk to you about cutting a lemon, does your mouth start to water? These are all indications that our subconscious mind does not distinguish between what is real, and what is imagined. And that is what makes this such a powerful tool.
The subconscious mind is equivalent to our autopilot…like the autopilot on a plane. Though we may take off and say that we want to go to Nassau, Bahamas with our conscious mind, our subconscious mind is like a programmed autopilot, which based on our past experiences, may have us destined for Pocatello, Idaho.
The brain is made up of two parts. The Conscious mind and the Subconscious mind. The Conscious mind is about 10 percent of the brain and the subconscious mind occupies the remaining 90%. As children, until the age of about 7 years old, we only had the one mind; the subconscious mind. We accepted every piece of information into our minds at face value. It is only at the age of seven that we developed the ‘Critical Factor’, or ‘Analytical Mind’ which then began to filter information that entered into our psyche. It screens information and only lets in what is consistent with what has already been buried in the subconscious mind. Your conscious minds ‘sees’ a certain reality. However, your creative, subconscious mind lacks the ability to distinguish what is real from what is imagined. So your body is like a robot, responding to messages buried in the subconscious, and acting independently of what we may be consciously wanting to achieve.
What hypnosis does is busies, or relaxes the conscious mind, which temporarily gets the ‘critical factor’, or the ‘analytical mind’ out of the way to allow me to enter suggestions into your subconscious mind and reprogram it. It is not only simple, but it’s an extremely relaxing experience. Through Hypnosis, you can lower your brain wave state. This will allow you regain calm, and control of your thoughts, and focus. The sense of peace and relaxation which you will experience will have you living from a different state, and feeling wonderful and easy with life.
At the root of all our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors is the communication between the neurons in our brains. Brainwaves are produced by synchronized electrical pulses from masses of neurons communicating with each other. Brain wave states range from Delta, the deepest possible sleep state, to Gamma a superconscious state. Between these states are Theta, Alpha, and Beta Brain Wave states. In Hypnosis, we are in Alpha and Theta states, accessing our subconscious mind, which is where we are focused and relaxed, and our brain waves are coherent…in sync.
During our day we are predominantly in a Beta Brainwave State, a conscious state. In low range beta, you can be driving your car, slipping in and out of Alpha. If you are listening to an educational audiobook, as I do in my car, you would probably go into medium-range Beta state. However, if the car in front of you were to stop suddenly, and you had to slam on your brakes, you would immediately go into High Beta. And here lies the challenge. This state is meant to be used short-term, and yet this is source of most of the anxiety and stress occurring today. We stay in the high-beta brainwave state, a fight-or-flight state for long periods, and this is impossible for our psyche to sustain. So regardless of what a client comes to me for, I always do a relaxation hypnosis to return the brainwaves to a state of coherence, and calm.
Hypnosis can be used in your life to make desired changes. Is there anything that is keeping you from living your life powerfully, and living a life you love? Or is there any behavior or thing that you dwell on, or focus on that drains your energy? And this energy, if freed up could be used to create something you want in your life. This could be anything from cleaning out the clutter in your garage to starting an exercise regime, or setting a boundary in an important relationship in your life, or even severing a relationship that no longer serves you. Hypnosis has become well known for people who want to lose weight or quit smoking, but it can be used for just about anything you can imagine.
One of the many reasons I love Hypnosis is because I am not a patient person. I want to see results now. This is why I refer to Hypnosis as a tool. It is for those of you, like me, who want to find solutions now, and to move on with your lives!
I love Hypnosis also because you become a new you, or as Dr. Joe Dispenza, another personal development leader says, you ‘break the habit of being yourself’. We develop our personalities based on our past experiences, and these personalities may serve to empower us…or they may actually be holding us back from living our lives to the fullest.
So we create our own realities in every moment of every day. And the funny thing is that when we do create something we want, we often dismiss it as chance or coincidence. Winston Churchill said “Man will occasionally stumble over the Truth, but usually manages to pick himself up, walk over or around it, and carry on.” We stumble across the Truth, with a capital T every day and don’t acknowledge that we created this reality.
With Hypnosis you can remove limiting beliefs, and patterns of behavior that no longer serve you, and thereby find the resources within yourself to Live an Inspired, Focused, and directed Life! “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” This is quantum reality. Hypnosis allows you to subconsciously tell yourself a different story and look at life from a different perspective, which will result in a different outcome!
Each of us has a vision of something we would like to do, a place we want to live, a business we want to start, a life we want to be living? I believe that we often limit ourselves. We accept or settle because there is no apparent discomfort. However, just as the absence of sickness, is not health. The absence of pain, is not pleasure. There is so much more than just accepting the status quo. There is joy, excitement, there is adventure, there is fun and creativity…
Hellen Keller said, “Life is either an exciting adventure, or nothing at all!”
We live in the best time in history to live the lives of our dreams… the lives we have envisioned for ourselves! Then why do so many of us struggle in some area, whether it be work, relationship, family, money, health, spirituality…or simply personal fulfilment?
In this day and age, it is easy to become prey to information overload. You plan your day and…oh! here comes life…and social media… and lunch engagements, and telephone calls, and texts, and there goes your day…right out the window. You want to make changes in your life. You want to take time for yourself… to read, to walk, to meditate, to do yoga, to play golf, to take those tennis lessons…but ‘life’ just gets in the way. So now, you are overwhelmed trying to figure out where to start, how to change this pattern and get your life back on track. So, the question is…what change can you make so that you can get your much-needed time back, to do the things that you want to do with your day, and with your life?
No one wants to live a default life, where today looks like yesterday, and tomorrow, looks like today, and the rest of your life looks like more of the same. We often live our lives through the lens of the past, and therefore our future is predetermined, unless we make a radical change in our approach. So what I see for you is that you start every day like it is the first day of the rest of your life, and make a plan to live your life to its fullest, and to do so powerfully.
Overall health and well-being. These are your inalienable rights and they are prerequisites to living a full life. Some of us find living life to the fullest easier than others to achieve, for many reasons…our environment, our lifestyles, our upbringing…and much more. So this is why I use Hypnosis, a simple, yet powerful tool to help you get started in the right direction towards vitality, and vibrant living in any area of your life where this may not be the case.
Brian Tracy said something else all those years ago, which made my heart soar back then, and still does to this day. He asked the question, ‘What one dream would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail?”
Don’t wait for a crisis, trauma, or illness, to start making changes in your life. Take action now and decide what your life will be. Make each day an exciting, new adventure and do the things that you want to do. Let the phone ring, say ‘no’ to lunch, and call and schedule a round of golf or go for a walk…in this beautiful desert of ours.
Einstein said, “Imagination is Everything. It is your view of life’s coming attractions.” So since that 90% of your subconscious is running the show, you want to ensure that your view is internalized and you are headed in the direction of your choosing.
I am going to leave you with this big question! Are you going to end up in Pocatella, Idaho, or are you headed for living an exciting adventure…the life of your dreams!?
